The Miami Parking Authority is piloting an innovative Smart Loading Zone technology to improve pedestrian and driver safety, reduce traffic congestion, and make curb space more efficient. This approach uses purple curbs, new signage, and sensor-based cameras to improve pedestrian, bicyclist, and driver safety; reduce traffic congestion; increase the efficiency of deliveries and pickups; minimize illegal curb use; reduce idling; and lower carbon emissions.
It is expected that Miami will become the first city in Florida and one of only a few nationwide to implement this advanced curb management solution, which has reduced traffic by up to 40% in other major U.S. cities. This pilot supports residents, businesses, and visitors while keeping Miami’s roads moving safely and traffic flowing.
