Miami Vehicular Protection
In the wake of past major hurricanes that have threatened South Florida, City of Miami and the Miami Parking Authority (MPA) have teamed up to provide the City’s residents the opportunity to park one vehicle per household, free of charge, in one of MPA’s parking garages listed below:
- College Station Garage 190 NE 3rd Street Miami, FL 33131
- Cultural Center Garage 90 SW 1 Street Miami, FL 33130
Who is Eligible?
The program is available to all City of Miami residents and employees.
How does it work?
Participants must pre-register through our website, during the registration window or you may visit your local Net Office for more information. Upon registration, participants will receive a placard that must be displayed upon entering the designated garage. Please note that your assigned garage may not be the one closest to your residence.
When a Hurricane Watch is issued by the National Hurricane Center or the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), participants will be allowed to enter the garage using the placard. The participants will be able to access the garage until the facility is full or it is closed due to the issuance of a Hurricane Warning. Instructions may be given on where to park your vehicle as lower floors may be subject to flooding and higher floors may be affected by wind shear. Participants must follow parking directions given by staff fully and in an orderly fashion.
All parking spaces in the garage will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis for registered participants.
Once a Hurricane Warning announced, all facilities will be locked down and no entry or exit will be allowed until employees are authorized to return to work. Staff will need time to make their way safely to work, open facilities and assess any potential damage or threats that may exist in each facility. It is understood that life safety is our single most important priority and we will follow the orders issued through the EOC as it pertains when to re-open, even if the storm passes in less time and/or intensity than predicted.
Upon exiting, participants must show their MVP placard in lieu of payment. The placard should be retained by the customer for future use during the same year. Note that registration in the program must be renewed annually and new placards will be issued each year.
