PayByPhone (PBP), the mobile parking payment technology, rolled out a redesigned iOS app that includes new Apple Pay functionality to offer users an easier and more secure payment option. The revamped app also features new location-based imagery. Additionally, it tracks the walking distance between motorists and their parking locations, and uses the information gathered to offer a time extension when necessary.
We are pleased to see a redesigned PayByPhone iOS app that will surely make our customers’ parking experience yet smoother and more secure
Arthur Noriega, CEO of Miami Parking Authority
In 2014, Miami Parking Authority (MPA) began absorbing the PayByPhone convenience fee of $.35 for customers who use the service when parking in the City of Miami. City of Miami residents continue receiving a 20 percent discount when using PayByPhone. To sign up for PayByPhone at no charge, motorists should call 866-990-7275, download the PayByPhone application on their iPhone, Android or BlackBerry, or enter paybyphone.com in their phone’s browser. The location number of the parking space and the desired parking time will need to be entered.
Miami Parking Authority was the first municipal parking organization in Florida to adopt PayByPhone. The success of this free application is palpable in the city of Miami. Approximately 15 months ago, the PBP market penetration in Miami benchmarked at 23 percent. Today, the mobile payment adoption is approximately 67 percent. This success is largely attributed to the absorption of the $.35 fee. While MPA still pays the surcharge to PayByPhone, consumers are no longer charged the fee every time they park in Miami.
