Miami Parking Authority (MPA) is pleased to sponsor PARK(ing) Day Miami, an event that gives metered parking spots a more convivial use by turning them into mini-parks for the day. The project is part of a global movement to create new forms of temporary public space in urban contexts around the world.
This year’s PARK(ing) Day Miami, to be held on Friday, September 16, 2016, will host the First Annual PARK(ing) Day Miami Competition, where members of the community will be challenged to transform metered parking spots into a site of cultural expression by designing and building amazing mini public spaces. A panel of local design professionals will select two winners.
Through the years, MPA has been deeply committed to sustaining and improving urban life in Miami. A proud supporter of PARK(ing) Day Miami since its inception five years ago, the agency is sponsoring 20 parking spaces throughout several City of Miami neighborhoods for this year’s event.
“We are excited to be part of PARK(ing) Day Miami, which puts our public spaces to fun use,” said Alejandra Argudin, COO of MPA. “This event redefines our urban landscape by giving new meaning to our parking spaces.”
