Miami Parking Authority Board of Directors names Thomas B. Jelke Chairperson

MIAMI, Jan. 18, 2012 - Miami Parking Authority is pleased to announce the appointment of Thomas B. Jelke, Ph.D. to chairperson of its board of directors, effective immediately.

Dr. Jelke was elected to the board in 2005 and is president and CEO of t. jelke solutions, a consulting firm offering assessment, curriculum development, research, strategic planning and leadership training services for universities, non-profits and fraternal organizations. He is chairman of the board of the Association of Fraternity Advisors Foundation and the Thomas B. Jelke Foundation. Dr. Jelke is also a member of an advisory board for the Actor’s Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre. Born and raised in Miami, he has served as a professor at Florida State University, Indiana University and Florida International University.

Dr. Jelke succeeds Jami Reyes, president of the government relations and corporate communications firm Jami Reyes & Co., who will remain on the board. The other board members are Arthur H. Hertz, chairman and CEO of Wometco Enterprises, Inc.; Marlon A. Hill, founding partner of the law firm delancyhill, PA; and Stephen Nostrand, CEO of Colliers International South Florida.

MPA was created in 1955 by a Special Act of the Florida State Legislature and incorporated into the City of Miami's Charter in 1968. The agency manages and develops affordable and convenient on- and off-street parking facilities in the City of Miami. A self-sustaining entity, MPA is overseen by parking industry professionals and financed by parking revenues. It shares responsibility with the City of Miami Police Department and Miami-Dade County for enforcement of parking regulations.

The agency currently manages more than 31,000 parking spaces and provides parking for approximately 6 million vehicles every year.
